Volunteer of the Month

Why did you choose to volunteer with Eden Housing?
I chose to volunteer with Eden Housing because I love helping others and making sure that everyone gets equal access to resources. I saw this as a great opportunity to help serve my community and to provide my skills in areas that will most benefit others.
What have you done as a volunteer? Please describe your role and what you have worked on.
As a volunteer with Eden Housing, I have been helping assist the ELP sessions every Wednesday. This specifically entails helping the youth with homework and creating a safe space for them to grow. I am also planning on bringing piano lessons to the Owls Landing complex, which will specifically be geared towards exposing the youth to piano and hopefully developing their passion for music. Some results I hope to achieve are for the youth to learn a new skill that they can use in order to de-stress, convey their emotions, or even enable them to explore piano more in depth in the future
What have you learned through your volunteer experience? Have there been any surprises?
By forming positive relationships with the students and obtaining the sheer joy of helping them achieve something, this experience has enabled me to realize my passion for working with kids of various ages!
What do you like best about volunteering with Eden Housing?
What I like best about volunteering with Eden Housing, besides working with the students, is the fact that all the staff members/employees that I have been in communication with are extremely courteous and organized. I feel that this enables a great volunteer experience and encourages volunteers to put 100% effort into their work.
Are there any tips that you would share for someone else who is considering volunteering?
My tip for someone considering volunteering here, is to have a goal of what you are trying to impact and to try to get to know everyone. These two things can help you optimize your success in positively impacting the residents here and will result in many positive relationships.
Tell us something we may not know about you. Any interesting facts you’d like to share about your life?
One interesting fact about me is that I have visited 9 countries besides the United States: Costa Rica, Denmark, Germany, China, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Spain.
