Affordable Housing

Furthering Eden’s commitment to green building and creating healthy living spaces for residents, our Sustainability team has expanded! The team is part of the Asset Management department, and is led by Tom White, Associate Director of Building Performance and Sustainability. Prior to coming to Eden in March 2017, Tom was Executive Director of the Berkeley-based nonprofit Energy Auditor and Retrofitter, Inc. He was also the publisher of Home Energy magazine, the national trade journal for residential energy efficiency, HVAC and green building professionals.

Eden relies on volunteers to help enhance programming across our affordable housing portfolio, from San Ysidro to Healdsburg. As 2019 comes to an end, Eden would like to thank the corporate groups that have made this year extra special for Eden’s residents.

Beginning in late September, HP Aruba volunteers celebrated fall with the residents at Cambrian Center with painting, gardening, and games.

40 senior residents from Carlow Court and Wicklow Square attended the Healthy Living Festival at the Oakland Zoo this winter. The festival is an upbeat event that includes free entry into the zoo, information and resource booths, giveaways and a healthy lunch for seniors in Alameda County.
From the Kincade Fire to the PG&E power shutoffs, the last few months of 2019 have been a challenging time for many Californians. Eden staff displayed strength and resilience. Even while worried about their families and friends, many stayed at Eden’s properties to ensure that our residents were safe.
Monika, a 10 year-old living at Ashland Village runs to Eden Housing's Expanded Learning Program (ELP) lead by Miss Khaliah and gives her a giant hug. Monika lives at Ashland Village with her family, an affordable housing community in San Leandro. She and other children at Eden properties benefit from robust resident services programming. While low-income children have historically under-performed academically when compared with middle and high-income children, programs like Eden's ELP work to level the playing field.
