Ohlone-Chynoweth Commons is an innovative transit-oriented, mixed-use development with affordable housing and commercial space next to the Ohlone-Chynoweth Commons light rail station in San Jose. Build on an under-utilized parking lot leased from the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, the residential buildings are organized into two and three-story clusters.
The gated community also provides an on-site day care facility, a community center, a computer lab, laundry facilities, underground parking and several play areas for children. The adjacent 4,400 square feet of retail space was incorporated into the design to meet the needs of the residential community as well as commuters using the nearby transit line. Oakridge Mall and shopping centers are also located close by.
