Downtown Santa Cruz Mixed-Use Library Project
Property Description
Santa Cruz’s Downtown Library Mixed-Use delivers much-needed affordable housing and provides a cultural hub embodying the spirit of Santa Cruz’s diverse and creative community through a public library. The architecture speaks directly to the surrounding scale, form, and materiality of the downtown core while reenergizing the spirit of the place through vibrancy and joy.
The Downtown Library Mixed Use Project is a proposed mixed-use housing development located at 600-698 Cedar Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 in Downtown Santa Cruz at a city-owned surface parking lot (Lot 4) off the intersection of Cathcart Street and Cedar Street. The project is jointly developed by Eden Housing and For the Future Housing, as well as the City of Santa Cruz for the public use components. The development features a multi-story mixed-use building which includes: a mix of approximately 126 studios, one, two, and three-bedroom homes, a modern public library with resources for all, a child care facility, a fitness gym, and a public parking component to serve the Downtown Santa Cruz retail community.
The planned target population for the community is large family with approximately 9 units given preference to those with developmental and intellectual disabilities and 9 units for those experiencing homelessness or at risk for homelessness. The apartments are on a 1.55 acre site with an elevated outdoor common area space, play structure, community garden, laundry rooms, and an attached public library, public parking garage and a daycare facility.
