Statement on Ruby Street
October 30, 2020
Eden is heartened that the Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the proposed affordable housing development on Ruby Street in Castro Valley. This is an 100% affordable housing project that will provide 72 homes for the East Bay’s most vulnerable families, dedicate land for a community trailhead, and permanently preserve a majority of the site as open space. We believe that the County’s environmental review of the Ruby Street Project was thorough and fully complied with CEQA’s requirements to consider the impacts of future development. The project balances the need for housing with responsible management of environmental resources, and it includes many features that the community requested. Features include a park and a connection to the San Lorenzo Creek trail that was previously fenced off. We believe that a successful California makes room for all of us to live here and we look forward to making a high-quality home a reality for more low-income families in Castro Valley.
