What
In partnership with the City of San Jose and SV@Home’s Affordable Housing Month, Eden Housing will host a hard hat tour at its new development, Gallup and Mesa. The project, which is conveniently located in Almaden, will offer 46 units, half of which will be set aside for transition-age youth who have exited the foster care system and are in need of housing. The remaining units will be rented to low-income families and unhoused seniors.
Gallup and Mesa is the result of a San Jose program to build affordable housing on city-owned land. Through a public RFP, San Jose selected Eden Housing as the developer for the site. San Jose donated the land and provided crucial financing, which allowed Eden to quickly begin predevelopment activities. Santa Clara County also contributed significant financing through Measure A. The site utilizes 9% tax credits through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program.

“While affordable housing is a well-known challenge in Silicon Valley, the City knows it is a cornerstone for fostering a diverse, thriving community,” said Mayor Liccardo. “Finding effective, innovative solutions is a priority, and Gallup and Mesa is an ideal example of how multiple stakeholders can work together to provide high-quality, stable housing to our neighbors in need.”
“We are very grateful to all our partners, including the City of San Jose and Santa Clara County, for their commitment to affordable housing and their role in making this project a reality,” said Linda Mandolini, president of Eden Housing. “We are particularly excited to celebrate the collaboration that led to this development during SV@Home’s Affordable Housing month, which offers the opportunity to shine a spotlight on how we can work together to make significant inroads in providing housing for our most vulnerable residents.”
About Gallup and Mesa
The development includes a number of amenities including onsite computer rooms, laundry facilities, a second-floor terrace and resident meeting space for events and services. Solar panels will be installed on the roof, and water efficient measures have been designed throughout the development. Residents will have access to the podium parking garage on the ground floor, and an adjacent 1,000 square-foot community room will be available for neighboring residents. The project is estimated to be completed by November 2022.
