Eden Housing Promotes Julia Cerna to Controller – Property Management Accounting

March 24, 2021

HAYWARD, CA – Eden Housing announces that Julia Cerna has been promoted to Controller – Property Management Accounting.

Cerna joined Eden in November of 1991 as an accounting temp. She became a full-time employee in July 1992. Cerna defines an Eden success story, working her way from an Accounting Assistant to leading a team of 20 staff in Eden’s Property Management Accounting group.

The Property Management Accounting team is responsible for accounting, financial reporting, and accounts payable functions for all the nearly 150 properties managed by Eden Housing. Under Cerna’s leadership, the team established a streamlined operation. Her team delivers the property financial statements on the tenth business day of every month, pays our vendors on time, and delivers 140-plus annual audits to stakeholders.

“Julia embraces new technology and is resourceful in automating routine manual tasks. Her ingenuity allows her team to focus on more impactful analytical work,” said Tatiana Blank, Chief Financial Officer with Eden Housing. “The Property Management Accounting team is well-positioned to meet the needs of our growing portfolio.”

Cerna’s first challenge in 2021 is switching all the department’s audit and tax work to a new auditor. She is also implementing new training modules to create clear pathways for career advancement.

“I’m thankful for the professional growth I’ve experienced with Eden Housing,” said Cerna. “I hope to create more opportunities for other accountants as we continue to grow and help meet the state’s need for more affordable housing.”
