County of Santa Clara and Eden Housing Celebrate Groundbreaking of East Santa Clara Senior

— New 68-unit development will provide affordable homes for low-income seniors in San José, including 20 units dedicated to seniors exiting homelessness —
WHAT:
The County of Santa Clara and Eden Housing are breaking ground on East Santa Clara Senior, a new 68-unit affordable rental development in San José. The apartments will be available to households earning up to 60% of the area median income (AMI). Twenty units will be reserved as Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) for seniors exiting homelessness.
The development is part of the East Santa Clara Master Plan, a joint initiative led by the County of Santa Clara and the Santa Clara County Housing Authority to create a mixed-use, mixed-income community featuring diverse housing options, flexible office space, retail, and open space.
As part of the project, Building 800, formerly home to the Temple Laundry—now known as Template Laundry—and IBM’s first West Coast office, will be rehabilitated and incorporated as community spaces for the new development, preserving an important piece of the site’s history.
In addition to making County-owned land available for the project, the County is committing $8.3 million in funding for East Santa Clara Senior.
