Affordable Housing Month Celebration: Eden Housing Opens Timber Senior Apartments in Newark

What: Eden Housing is celebrating the grand opening of Timber Senior Apartments, a new 79-unit affordable housing development for seniors in Newark. The grand opening falls during both Affordable Housing Month and NeighborWorks Week, which recognize the importance of building affordable and stable communities. Units are affordable to households earning up to 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI), with 20 homes specifically reserved for formerly homeless seniors or individuals living with chronic medical or behavioral health conditions.

Timber Senior Apartments was built on a site that previously housed a single-story industrial building. Eden Housing worked closely with the City of Newark to rezone the site, transforming an underutilized industrial parcel into a vibrant, walkable residential community aligned with the City’s long-term neighborhood vision.

About Timber Senior Apartments:  

Timber Senior Apartments offers 79 one-bedroom apartments designed to support seniors living independently or as couples. The community features a resident lounge with a full kitchen, a courtyard with planter boxes, a computer learning center, an exercise room, and bicycle storage. On-site offices house support services staff dedicated to the 20 residents transitioning from homelessness or managing chronic medical or behavioral health conditions.
