Why did you choose to volunteer with Eden Housing?
I chose Eden Housing because I believe that the best way to improve your quality of life is through education. Eden Housing provides access to essential education, such as the financial coaching program.
What have you done as a volunteer? Please describe your role and what you have worked on.
My role as a financial coach is to help families understand and take control of their finances. I work with my clients to identify the cause of their financial challenges and work with them to plan feasible long-term solutions according to their necessities.
What have you learned through your volunteer experience? Have there been any surprises?
I have learned that every person is more than capable of taking charge of their finances if they have the right resources to do so. Clients just need someone to take the time to sit down with them, understand their financial status and guide them to reach their goals.
What do you like best about volunteering with Eden Housing?
I like to have a tangible impact on improving the lives of low-income families. In particular, as a Mexican immigrant, I enjoy focusing my work on giving back to the Hispanic community.
Are there any tips that you would share for someone else who is considering volunteering?
I would encourage them to volunteer as a way to give back to their community and impart their knowledge. For me, this experience has been very enriching as I watch my clients succeed
Tell us something we may not know about you. Any interesting facts you’d like to share about your life?
Having lived in 6 countries, I have always prioritized immersing myself in the community as I believe it is the best tool to empower an individual and families.
