The Youth All Stars Project of the SF Bay Area
August 20, 2014
The All Stars Project of the SF Bay Area is a program that transform the lives of youth ages 5-25 from poor communities using the developmental power of performance, in partnership with caring adults. This organization was started in NY and now has 7 locations across the U.S., and one in Uganda. In this episode of the Affordable Housing Podcast, host Joanne Greene welcomes the San Francisco/Oakland Director Joyce Dattner, and Program Director Dr. Elouise Joseph to discuss their programs, successes, and future.
This summer Eden hosted three youth from the Development School for Youth, a program of the All Stars Project; Addrell Coleman, Antonisha Crosley and Adriana Vazquez. Youth were able to gain hands-on experience while shadowing Eden staff in their day-to-day roles at Eden. Eden’s goal was to expose our DSY interns to multiple aspects of affordable housing and provide them with an educational and fulfilling work experience during the summer months. During a recent focus group with our interns, all three reported that their understanding and impression of affordable housing has changed for the positive as a result of their experience at Eden. They were impressed with not only the quality of the buildings, but also by our level of customer service, our amenities and our resident services programs. All three would also like to work at Eden in the future! We’d like to thank all of them for their great work, their dedication and their contributions this summer!
