The mission of Homeward Bound of Marin is of “opening doors to safety, dignity, hope and independence” and the numbers speak for themselves. 80% of the families and 81% of adults who complete Homeward Bound programs move on to stable housing. In this episode of the Affordable Housing Podcast, brought to you by Eden Housing, host Joanne Greene sits down with Homeward Bound of Marin’s Executive Director; Dr. Mary Kay Sweeney, and Program Director; Micha Berman. The misconception is that Marin County, with the highest median income in California, and the only California county ranked in the top 20 counties of the nation, is that homelessness is not an issue. But in fact, there are nearly 1,000 homeless, and 4,000 precariously housed here who remain invisible because Marin’s large geographic footprint with 80% dedicated Open Space. Homeward Bound is Marin County’s chief provider of shelter and residential services serving as many as 450 people each night.
