Hercules Senior Housing Opens

New Housing to Provide Homes for Lower Income Seniors

Samara Terrace Senior Housing for seniors will be celebrating its Grand Opening in Hercules on November 28th  at noon.  The event will take place at the new affordable housing community, which is conveniently located at 102 Civic Drive in Hercules' Civic Center, directly across the street from the city's Senior Center and City Hall, and immediately behind the new Contra Costa County Library. The housing was developed by nonprofit affordable housing developer, Eden Housing, Inc. of Hayward.  The event will include a speaker's program with  County Supervisor Gayle Uilkema, Hercules Mayor Trevor Evans-Young, City Manager Mike Sakamoto, Northern CA Director of HUD, Richard Rainey and others.  


Samara Terrace offers 51 one-bedroom units for seniors and a manager's unit in a 43,643 square foot three-story building. Amenities include outdoor walkways and space for group activities, gardening and recreational activities. The ground level includes a community room, library, crafts room and exercise room for use by the residents. There is also an additional multipurpose room for exclusive use by the City of Hercules.  Each senior apartment is approximately 546 square feet and provides a kitchen, a living area and a full bathroom for independent living. The apartments are all situated on interior corridors, and each has a front door alcove for individual resident identity.  All exterior doors opening from the building are monitored and an elevator provides easy access to the upper floors.


The new $12 million property was made possible by funding and financing from by the City of Hercules Redevelopment Agency, Contra Costa County Community Development Dept., U.S. Bank, and the Housing Authority of Contra Costa County.   This is a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program development; the private tax credit investor is Union Bank of California.


Samara Terrace was designed by award-winning Pyatok Architects, Inc. of Oakland.  The property is managed by Eden Housing Management, Inc.  Resident support services will be provided by Eden Housing Resident Services, Inc.  Additional services are available at the Senior Center right across the street.  For rental information call (510) 245-3164.
