Eden Housing Recognized as 2017 Healthiest Employer

Sixth consecutive year Eden's health and wellness initiative honored

HAYWARD, CA – September 14, 2017 - For the sixth consectuive year, Eden Housing has been recognized as one of the Bay Area's Healthiest Employers, an awards program presented by the San Francisco Business Times and the Silicon Valley Business Journal. Select employers from the Bay Area were named winners of the awards program, held on September 8, 2017 at Levi’s Stadium. Award winners are recognized for their commitment to employee health, with exceptional corporate wellness programming. Eden Housing is one of California's oldest nonprofit affordable housing development companies.

Eden Housing’s wellness program was created seven years ago to inform employees about health issues and to guide them to make good, healthy choices. By keeping wellness in the forefront, Eden's employees can be proactive when it comes to their health. Eden asks for and collects feedback from staff on what is working and what is not to keep the program fun and engaging.

Eden covers a variety of health issues throughout the year, partnering with its benefits broker and its insurance provider to provide training, seminars and a variety of programs to help individuals overcome a wide range of health related issues. Two significant health benefits for employees: Eden pays 100% of the medical premiums for all employees and also provides each employee with a free gym membership.

Eden also holds health challenges as a way to promote fun healthy living. In the walking challenge, employees counted their steps over the course of a month utilizing pedometers provided by their nsurance provider - collectively more than 5.8 million stepswere recorded by participants. During the weight-loss challenge, Eden employees recorded a 4% average weight loss.

Because of its health programs and initiative, Eden was able to negotiate a reduction in health premiums this past year, which saved Eden more than $230,000!

One of the unique features of our wellness program is our 11 am stretch on Mondays through Thursdays where everyone in the company stops what they are doing to stretch. On Fridays, the entire office leaves to go outside for a 20-minute walk.

Healthiest Employer Award applicants were evaluated across six key categories: Culture and Leadership, Strategic Planning, Communication and Marketing, Foundational Components and Programming, and Interventions, and Reporting and Analytics. Completed assessments were ranked with the San Francisco Business Times' and Silicon Valley Business Journal's proprietary Healthiest Employer Index.
