Eden Housing Names Anna Gwyn Simpson as Director of Resident Services

Simpson brings more than 15 years of nonprofit and social service experience to California’s second oldest affordable housing developer.

HAYWARD, CA – Eden Housing announced today Anna Gwyn Simpson as the new Director of Resident Services. Eden is one of California’s oldest affordable housing developers and managers with more than 130 affordable communities in the state providing nearly 8,500 affordable rental apartment homes to more than 17,000 low-income people.

Simpson brings more than 15 years of social service experience to the senior management team based in Eden’s Hayward headquarters. She has an extensive background in managing social service programs for diverse communities and developing evaluation metrics and measurement tools to articulate program success. Simpson has deep executive management experience, most recently as the Interim City Manager for the City of Martinez.

“We are excited to have Anna Gwyn join Eden, with her longtime dedication to working with diverse communities,” said Linda Mandolini, Eden Housing’s President. “She is a remarkable community leader and we know that her strategic leadership and passion for social justice will be of great benefit in serving our residents.”

The majority of Simpson’s entire career has been in housing, serving in leadership roles with the Oakland Housing Authority, Citizens Housing Corporation, and Episcopal Community Services of San Diego and Riverside Counties. She was pivotal to the Housing Authority’s “Moving To Work” demonstration program with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and vital to the ensured continuation of resident services at Citizens Housing’s 16 low-income affordable housing communities as the company was dissolved and acquired by other organizations.

“Anna Gwyn’s energy and management acumen will be great assets for Eden’s resident services program,” said John Gaffney, Eden’s Board Chair. “Resident services are important to opening the doors of opportunity that come with having a home to call your own.”

Since 1995, Eden Housing has provided a wide range of supportive services and enrichment programs designed to meet the needs of its diverse resident population. The comprehensive programs are offered at 100% of Eden’s 128 managed properties, with a goal to increase individual self-reliance and build stronger families and communities. Programs include youth and after-school programs, digital technology and literacy programs, aging in place and independent living programs for older adult seniors, health and wellness programs, and financial literacy programs.

Eden Housing recognizes the positive impact that a community can have on residents’ health and well-being. To encourage community building, on-site resident services staff work with residents to assist them in forming or strengthening resident organizations; to address advocacy and community issues; to build informal support networks and interest groups; and to get involved with neighborhood improvement efforts.

Additionally, Eden Housing organizes community events, picnics, and health and safety fairs such as National Night Out (NNO). This unique, crime-free multi-housing program is designed to improve neighborhood safety and to strengthen community partnerships with local police and fire departments.
