Eden Housing Celebrates National Night Out

Residents at more than 80 properties to mark community-building efforts

August 1 - Eden Housing residents will join local officials, representatives of police and fire departments and neighbors and friends in marking National Night Out (NNO). Observed annually on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

According to NNO, millions of people take part in National Night Out events in thousands of communities across all fifty states. “Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.”

Here in California, Eden will join in festivities at more than 80 properties.

·         At Foss Creek Court in Healdsburg, more than 100 residents are expected to join city council members, and representatives from local police and fire departments at a BBQ.

·         Up to 200 residents will celebrate with a taco stand, pizza, a DJ and other festivities at Vista Terrace Hills in San Ysidro.

·         Council member Melissa Hernandez and City Manager Chris Foss are expected for ice cream at Valor Crossing in Dublin.

·         Alta Mira Senior and Family Apartments in Hayward will take on a carnival atmosphere with cotton candy and popcorn.

·         A NNO Fiesta will include a BBQ and raffle at Sobrato Apartments in Gilroy.

·         Food, raffles, games and face painting are part of the NNO program at University Village in Marina.

At last year’s NNO event at Eden’s Ashland Village, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office partnered with community groups to host arts, dance, and a resource fair for the Ashland neighborhood. Sheriff Deputies were out on the dance floor with residents enjoying the music. Captain Marty Neideffer remarked, “This is exactly what we want to see in our community.”

Created in 1984 to increase awareness about police programs in communities, National Night Out is intended to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing a sense of community. It also provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
