Anthony Bunyan

Housing Advocate Award Winner

Anthony is a longtime Castro Valley/Hayward resident, the father of two amazing young adults, and is a marketing designer and print production professional, born and raised in Hayward, CA.

Anthony has always had a love for this region, impressed upon him by his grandmother Vanette Ott Bunyan of the California Native Plant Society and grandfather, Juan Ruiz. He strongly believes that care and compassion for our land and people are always the highest priority. Anthony’s support and advocacy for affordable housing is helpful beyond measure.

We first met Anthony in the comments section of a Facebook post, where he was advocating for the creation of 72 new affordable homes for low-income families.

Over the past year, one of Eden Housing’s proposed developments, Ruby Street Apartments, was facing opposition from a few community members.

Anthony jumped on the opportunity to use his voice to support equity and opportunity for his soon-to-be new neighbors.

He attended meetings of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors and emphasized the need for more affordable housing in his community.

His support was made a huge difference, and ultimately helped lead to the project’s approval.
