Eden Housing Announces Pivotal Hire in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA – Hayward based nonprofit developer Eden Housing announces the hiring of Chris Arthur as Director of Real Estate Development. Chris will focus on expanding Eden’s San Diego development pipeline.
“Chris brings over 14 years of experience in affordable housing and real estate development to Eden. His work as Director of Real Estate for the Landbourn Company, paired with his demonstrated expertise in San Diego development makes him well-equipped to lead Eden’s expansion in this region,” said Andy Madeira, Senior Vice President of Real Estate Development.
San Diego leads the nation in the number of rent-burdened residents. More than half of residents spend 30 percent of their income on rent and utilities. The expense of living in San Diego hits low-income and extremely low-income families the hardest. When families experience rent burden, they are likely to skip meals, avoid the doctor, and not purchase prescription medications. Eden Housing seeks to alleviate this burden through building and maintaining high-quality, well-managed, service-enhanced affordable homes.
Arthur manages the developments of projects from inception through completion, identifying and underwriting new opportunities, securing both public and private financing, obtaining entitlements and environmental approvals, and overseeing construction and lease-up. By utilizing density bonuses, tax concessions, and subsidies available for low-income housing, Arthur has successfully financed and developed hundreds of units throughout California that provide homes for seniors, veterans, persons with disabilities, students, and working families.
Arthur has also worked as Senior Development Manager for National Community Renaissance (National CORE), Palm Communities, and Chelsea Investment Corporation. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and a M.S. in Real Estate from the University of San Diego.
